Architecture as a Service.

Strategic CIO and CTO leadership that thinks enterprise-first, not project-first, without the C-suite overhead. We give healthcare organizations access to senior architecture leadership on a fractional basis: enough to change the trajectory of the technology portfolio, scaled to what a community hospital, a growing practice group, a program office or a startup can actually afford.

The idea

Enterprise-first, not project-first.

Most healthcare technology is bought one project at a time. The result is an enterprise nobody designed.

Every project makes locally sensible decisions: this vendor, this interface, this workaround. Ten years later the organization is running dozens of systems that each made sense on their own and together make nothing easy. Interoperability becomes a fire drill, modernization becomes impossible to sequence and every new program starts with an integration project.

Architecture as a Service puts a single, enterprise-level point of view across all of those decisions. Not to slow them down, but to make sure each one leaves the organization better positioned for the next. It is the perspective a strong CIO or CTO would bring, offered as a service rather than a full-time hire, with the healthcare and standards depth that generalist IT leadership rarely has.

Three levels of perspective are available, individually or together.

Pillar 1 · CIO-level

Healthcare strategy & thought leadership

Deciding what is worth building, and why, before anyone decides how.

  • Business use case discovery
  • Solution validation
  • Value proposition development
  • Health technology product strategy
  • Policy and regulatory analysis
  • Data validation
  • ROI analysis
Pillar 2 · CTO-level

Technology infrastructure & interoperability

Standards-based foundations that survive the next regulation and the next vendor.

  • FHIR and USCDI implementation
  • EHR integration
  • Cloud-first infrastructure
  • Healthcare data exchange
  • API and microservices strategy
  • Security architecture
Pillar 3 · IT-director-level

Tech debt reduction & enterprise transformation

Transformation the organization can absorb while it keeps delivering care.

  • Technical debt elimination
  • Legacy modernization
  • Enterprise landscape optimization
  • Change management
  • Technology ROI measurement
  • Vendor oversight
Engagement options

Three ways to engage.

Most clients begin with a consultation and move to advisory once there is a roadmap worth governing.

EngagementBest forWhat you receiveTypical shape
Strategic consultationA decision that needs an independent, expert read: a modernization choice, a compliance deadline, a program launch, a build-or-buy questionCurrent-state assessment, options analysis with recommendation, and a roadmap with sequencing, risks and rough order of magnitudeFixed scope, weeks not months
Solution architectureA defined initiative that needs a target architecture and design guidance through implementationReference and target architecture, interface and data designs, vendor evaluation, design reviews and implementation oversightScoped to the initiative, through go-live
Ongoing advisoryOrganizations that need senior architecture leadership on a continuing basis without a full-time hireFractional CIO/CTO: portfolio governance, roadmap stewardship, vendor management, board and leadership reporting, standing availability to the teamMonthly retainer, scaled to need
How we work

The working principles behind every engagement.

  • Problem first

We will not recommend a technology until we can state the operational or financial problem it solves and how we will know it worked. If the problem turns out not to need technology, we say so.

  • Right-sized

Enterprise architecture scaled to the organization. A rural hospital, a program office and a national plan need the same discipline at very different weights. We do not sell a 400-bed solution to a 25-bed hospital.

  • Standards over custom

We design on open standards and implementation guides wherever they exist, because they outlive projects, vendors and staff. Custom is a last resort with a documented reason.

  • Decisions, written down

Every engagement leaves behind decision records, diagrams and roadmaps that a future team can read. The goal is an organization that understands its own architecture, not one that depends on us.

  • Honest about uncertainty

Regulations change, program details get clarified and vendors miss dates. We distinguish clearly between what is verified, what is likely and what still needs confirmation, and we flag it when a decision depends on something that has not been confirmed.

  • Phased and absorbable

Change is delivered in phases the organization can absorb without disrupting care. We stay engaged through implementation rather than handing over a deck and leaving.

What you receive

Deliverables that survive the engagement.

Architecture documents

Framework-aligned architecture documents covering business, data, application and technology layers, with the trade-offs made explicit.

Roadmaps & portfolios

Three-horizon roadmaps and technology opportunity portfolios that connect every initiative to a capability gap and a business outcome.

Models & diagrams

Value streams, capability heat maps and standard-notation architecture models, built to settle arguments and brief executives.

Governance & risk frameworks

Review processes, decision records, standards and risk registers sized to the organization and designed to be run by your team.

Business cases & ROI models

Financial models that tie technology investment to revenue, cost and risk, including payment-model and reimbursement overlays where relevant.

Workshops & briefings

Stakeholder workshops, board and leadership briefings and team enablement so the architecture becomes shared understanding rather than a document on a shelf.

Next step

Start with a strategic consultation.

It is the lowest-risk way to find out whether Architecture as a Service fits your organization. Bring the decision you are facing; we will bring an independent view of it.
